Decked OUT!

No matter what region you live in there is something to be said for having a deck of your own. Need to tear out your old broken one or maybe your home never had one? Now is the time to build your dream deck!  Spend some time this summer with BBQs, pool parties, or just livin' easy out on the deck.  Here are some ideas on how to get decked out this summer. Enjoy!

Enjoy the view without anything blocking it! Except glass, of course... just remember it's there.

Try to focus on the deck here, people! This view is breathtaking, complimented by a cozy and nearly camouflaged deck designed for optimal comfort.

This deck is sleek and sexy- perfect for the sunbathers!

This deck is incredibly spacious! I love the checker-patterned wood floor. Also, this home has a sun room: great for admiring the outdoors while still inside.

Step out on the deck and into the pool! This modern deck flows so well and the Palm Tree Island is a perfect touch.

Many levels, many opportunities! Instead of having one floor, this multi-level deck subtly designates areas for different activities.

Decked out on the water! I've always wanted my own island... ;)

5 Tips on How to Bring Color into a Room

Color can make or break a room! Too much and it is overwhelming, too little and it gets lost. Whether you just bought your first place (congrats!) or your existing home is in need of a facelift these color tips will guide you in the right direction!

1. Painting an accent wall

Painting is one of these easiest ways to add color to a space with little cost.  Also it is easy to change for the next time you feel your room needs a new face!  Don't be afraid of using a bold color, that is why its an accent! You could always go a little further and add a texture or pattern to the wall.

2.  Adding a throw or some pillows into the mix

Throws are not only a great place to add color but always nice to have something to cuddle up with on those chilly nights! While you are curled up why not rest your head on some bold pillows! Say you loved red for years so all your accents are red.....then one day you decide you want turquoise...changing that is easy! Swap your old throw and pillows for you new color you fell in love with!

3. Recover a small chair cushion

Recovering a chair cushion sounds daunting to some but inspect the chair and see if you can do it yourself! Usually a staple gun is the only tool you need! Find a fabric you like with maybe a pattern to add more interest to your space.  and if the chair needs a little more TLC you can always paint the frame and change the fabric...ta da! New chair!

4. Go Green! Bring some plants in to the mix

Colorful blooms make any room feel alive!  If you aren't one for flowers green foliage works great too.  Some plants even have different color leaves making them a little more interesting.  My fiance recently gave me a beautiful  Dendrobium Orchid for my office and it makes things feel a little cozier in here!

5. Put some color on the floor
A rug is a great way to add color to any room and it also can define a space without putting up a divider. Visually separates that space form the rest.  This is a perfect place to "do it big", use a large pattern with a color or two. Again, easily changeable to go with your next favorite color you may choose for your room in the future.

Bring the Outside in!

I love being in nature. Who doesn’t? The feeling of tranquility can’t be matched by man-made designs. I want to show you ways to bring the outside, inside so you can enjoy nature without leaving your home.
House plants are nice. They provide a little color and give you something to do when they need water. But how about an entire garden inside? I mean, why not? If you’re willing to have a handful of potted plants inside, it’s not that far off to include a garden with your interior.

Of course, planting indoors is more involved than buying a few potted plants at Home Depot, but the reward, feel and uniqueness are well worth the effort. Below are a few ideas that can be integrated into a well designed interior and bring color, life and a focal point to your space. Enjoy!
