Spring Cleaning Tips 2013

Its about that time! Flowers start to bloom and outdoor activities are planned. But what about the inside of your home? Does it need a little sprucing up? Organize that area you have been talking about for the past 3 months? You don't have to spend a lot (or if any) to make an impact on your organization around the home! Here are some tips that can help you get inspired or perhaps make it happen sooner than you expected! Enjoy!

The number one place that people usually start with in their spring cleaning journey is the closet! It is usually the most area in need since it gets used everyday! Go through and try on everything and decide if you still like it, looks good on your or if you need to pass it along to someone else who could put it to good use. Once the items you no longer want/need are gone organize the rest and hang clothes on the same type of hangers for a cohesive look.

Messy box of wrapping materials get you stressed? Well think about hanging your ribbon spools and other accessories on a multiple pan hanger and a jewelry pouch hanger. New uses for common items!

Free storage containers!!! Made spaghetti last night? Use that jar for storing dry goods that usually come in a bag. This will keep them fresher and make better use of your pantry shelf space.

Some pantries don't come with ample storage for spices or other small food items but making use of dead wall space is perfect for small spice racks attached to the wall! Inexpensive and easy to do-it-yourself! Hooray for having everything visible and easy to find!

Recycle: In Vino Veritas!

"In wine, there is truth." The truth is, we wine drinkers have too many corks and no idea what to do with them! Here are a few creative solutions to your cork-conundrum. Salud!

 Clever: a cork bath mat!

Wine and dine! Make a kitchen backsplash out of your old corks!

Cute and Corky! This quirky wall art allows your creativity to be free, simple, and resourceful!

Literally, a cork-board.

'C' is for Cork, Crafts, and Creativity! Monogramming with corks can be a great activity for kids, or just the kid in you!

Recipe for romance? Wine and candlelight. Recipe for being resourceful? Corks and votive candles.

 Coffee table? Think again!

"Always carry a corkscrew, and the wine will provide itself." True statement. Then, you can keep the cork and create an artistic frame.

Heading to Bed

You just got home from a long, hard day of work. You're exhausted, and all you want to do is fall into bed and fly away to Dreamland. You look at your bed- a mattress on top of a measly metal bed frame. It's definitely not inviting you to Dreamland, is it? This can all change just by adding a creative headboard. Here are some inexpensive ways to bring a new design element into your bedroom that will invite you to head to bed and onward to Dreamland. Enjoy!

These doors are fresh, charming, and inviting! A perfect headboard for a cute, quaint room such as this one.

Open the doors to your wildest dreams! These vintage doors lend a rustic and chic feel to this bedroom complete with crystal chandelier and wooden furniture: what a perfect combination!

"I love being board!" If headboards could talk, am I right?! But seriously, this design is sweet, simple, and earthly-sound! I love seeing recycled materials used in creative ways!

You designed these? Oh, you're a natural! These natural wood panels give your room height yet add a cozy feel to the design of your room.

This ornate headboard is so intricate, inviting, and incredible! You'll have some interesting dreams, that's for sure!

Everyday Kitchens Made Sustainable!

Whether you are doing an entire kitchen overhaul or a few smaller upgrades you should keep in mind green design.  Weather its using a recycled material or energy efficient appliances...its a change for the better! These are some great designs and all use sustainable materials. Enjoy!

Bamboo is a wonderful product. Grows fast and is durable! Mix it with stainless and this kitchen has an instant modern feel. Also, open storage has become more appealing to homeowners since you have beautiful dinnerware why not show it off all the time? Perfect.

Love this! Would you ever think this was a sustainable kitchen? Probably not and that is the beauty of it. All the function and durability of a "typical" kitchen but highly stylish!

Would you ever know walking into this kitchen that it was designed as a "green" kitchen? Well concrete floors, quartz counter top make this home be just a little greener than its neighbor. Every little bit helps!

WOOD! This is from a house mainly designed out of wood......so naturally the kitchen presents lots of wood.  People sometimes forget wood can be sustainable and there are plenty of manufactures spreading the word and making sure the right practices are in place.  Since the wood comes from the right place and new trees are planted in the old ones place, this makes a nice green designed kitchen, and the addition of concrete counters adds to the design.

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day 2012! Its the 42nd Earth Day and every year people are finding ways to help our environment.  Sometimes it is by using bio-degradable water bottle, or taking your recycles to the collection facility so they don't end up in a landfill. But what about that old furniture you have that you were going to put out on the curb for the trash man to take? Don't throw it way! Give it new life. Here are so great ideas for that old chair or dresser you may have laying around. Enjoy!

Apartment style garden, small and thanks to the attached lamp your mini garden will get plenty of light!

Love this idea! Putting grass seeds on chairs them put them outside! Definitely give new life to any old piece.

Remember those hard case suitcases that were oh so cool in the 80's and 90's? Well don't throw them away deconstruct them in half and top with foam and fabric of your choice an ta da! lovely new ottoman or seat!

Dresser turned plant shelf? An old dresser makes a great place to display small potted plants or a nice herb garden!
Old fabric on your sofa? Rip it off and gut the insides of your dated sofa. This is  now a multilevel planter box perfect for those various flowers you love to display!

I recycle, and so should you!

So everyone talks about recycling junk or unwanted items  well here a few ideas that stood out to me. Very fun and playful! Sometimes you just need that one piece to give a sense of playfulness or just to let people know you don't take life to seriously! Enjoy!

So if you are like me you might like beer or soda out of glass bottles. Something
with awesome colorful caps! I created a few pieces of art out of the caps i had
collected but never thought to do it on furniture!

Still have your old records and turntable? Why not turn your old records into a table?!
This custom-made piece is not only fashionable, but functional! You can showcase
your taste in music as well as your taste in design (not to mention your good taste in recycling!).

Mission: Antique Impossible. Ok, so maybe I’m no Tom Cruise/Ethan Hunt, but if I could
find sixteen equally-sized wooden crates on my next antique shopping trip, I would
definitely consider myself a secret agent of design. This arrangement is absolutely beautiful!
It provides storage and shelving with a rustic yet elegant feel.

These comfy cubes can be a great addition to a kids’ or game room, or can even serve as an ottoman.
Love them!

Boris Bally crafted these sleek and modern seats out of street signs.  Because of their bright colors and strong metal, they are stylish and durable enough for everyday use. Now, I’m sure Boris Bally doesn’t encourage theft of public property, but does encourage recycling, reducing, and reusing: crucial practices of living an environmentallyconscious life (and a style-conscious one, at that!).
