Storing Wine....Creatively!

Wine storage for those of us who lack a cellar or just don't have a large collection of bottles these are some great storage ideas for you! Some of these ideas are DIY which is always fun others are ideas for when you decide to finally renovate that kitchen you have always dreamed of! Wine storage is something people often look over and just simply buy a table top rack that holds few bottles.  That doesn't seem like a very creative idea for your precious wine collection, does it? You want your display to standout and house your wonderful collection for all to see. Here are a few ideas to get your thinking. Enjoy!

 

 Above the cabinets in the kitchen has always been a place to store bottles, but what if you could integrate your storage system? This kitchen shows the holes in the brick wall but this could easily be done on a typical wall or any material for that matter, just make sure to plan for it when designing your kitchen.

 

 Ah concrete, one of my favorite materials to use in design. Inexpensive, industrial looking and durable.

 Postal tubes are great for shipping drawings or anything that can be rolled up easily, but wine storage? Yes, please! Cut them down to your desired size, arrange your design and ta da! Easy on the wallet so you can buy more wine to store in your DIY storage system.

 This teardrop design is simple and sleek and a perfect piece for modern designed interior.

 Reclaimed wood is another one of my favorite materials to use in design. This can be a DIY project that is sure to hold your all of your bottles.

Oh the classic wine cellar look. If you can get your hands on one or two these would make great storage for a small collection. Can either be free standing or mounted on the wall!

Welcome the sun with filtered light!

When sunlight peaks through tree branches to create rays of filtered light, I can't help but feel surrounded by absolutely mystifying beauty. However, as we approach midwinter, we don't get to see the sun as often as we'd like or witness streams of sunlight. But don't worry- the sun will come out... next season! So, when spring finally comes, welcome the sun into your home with warm, filtered light. Now is the perfect time for implementing an inundation of flowing streams of light into your home. Enjoy!

 Angled ceiling skylights allow for bright, beautiful light beams to burst in and brighten a bedroom.

 These 'floating' stairs slice the sunlight, creating streams that pour light into an otherwise dismal stair well.

 Filtered light doesn't always have to be fragmented light- the sunlight enters this home through textured, opaque windows.

All about the angles- the thick windowpanes set at drastic angles offers a a unique edge to this modern, earthy dwelling

Concrete Jungle Fever!

Caught the fever, yet? Be careful, it's contagious! Concrete can morph into just about anything- counter tops, tables, floors, benches. This unique material is environmentally sound, durable, and dynamic. Despite its hard and tough feel, it can be stained, polished, and sealed for a finished look. Concrete may seem intimidating, but he's not such a tough guy- just pair him with some soft goods such as linens or an over-sized club chair. That way, his tough edge gets taken off with a softer look. Haven't caught concrete jungle fever yet? Just take a look at these great designs. Enjoy

Concrete Ideas for Concrete Floors!

Concrete is a material that for some is not something that goes in their home. Its cold, uninviting, and seems to raw for a home.  Things have changed. Concrete is a sustainable product that can be manipulated in so many ways. You can stamp it, score it, painted it, stain it......the possibilities are endless. These are a few examples of what can be done with this versatile  product. Enjoy!

 This simply stained concrete with subtle graphic detail gives some interest to a space without being overpowering.

  This looks like wood planks, I know! It is just the concrete playing tricks on you.  Stamped concrete give you texture and durability like hard wood flooring would but its better for the environment and on your wallet.

 

Painting with a bold pattern and lots of color is like having a built in rug.

  Making concrete resemble other more traditional materials is becoming a popular option for those who love the look of expensive Italian tile. Adding two or three colors can make a bigger impact on a space.

Everyday Kitchens Made Sustainable!

Whether you are doing an entire kitchen overhaul or a few smaller upgrades you should keep in mind green design.  Weather its using a recycled material or energy efficient appliances...its a change for the better! These are some great designs and all use sustainable materials. Enjoy!

Bamboo is a wonderful product. Grows fast and is durable! Mix it with stainless and this kitchen has an instant modern feel. Also, open storage has become more appealing to homeowners since you have beautiful dinnerware why not show it off all the time? Perfect.

Love this! Would you ever think this was a sustainable kitchen? Probably not and that is the beauty of it. All the function and durability of a "typical" kitchen but highly stylish! 

 

 Would you ever know walking into this kitchen that it was designed as a "green" kitchen? Well concrete floors, quartz counter top make this home be just a little greener than its neighbor. Every little bit helps! 

WOOD! This is from a house mainly designed out of wood......so naturally the kitchen presents lots of wood.  People sometimes forget wood can be sustainable and there are plenty of manufactures spreading the word and making sure the right practices are in place.  Since the wood comes from the right place and new trees are planted in the old ones place, this makes a nice green designed kitchen, and the addition of concrete counters adds to the design.

Eco-Friendly: New Floors For the Home

Everywhere I look people are turning to hardwood flooring to provide a personal touch. However, there are plenty of available eco-friendly, sustainable alternatives that will help set your home apart from the rest. Enjoy!

I currently favor concrete flooring. Customizing the color with a stain, I think is key to avoiding the cold feel from plain concrete. The material is obviously durable, easy to clean and environmentally friendly in that it uses 

no organic material.  

Cork can provide a nice compromise between a hard surface and one with a little more cushion. As cork is a soft wood it will give a little under a person’s weight, but unlike carpet, it creates a smooth surface that’s 

much easier to clean. I find the natural patterns made by the grains much more intriguing than 

your standard cherry wood flooring.

 Bamboo is another sustainable wood that remains off the beaten path. It is harder than most woods, 

so it promises to be durable. This example shows it adding a light touch, and really opening up 

an otherwise dark space. 

You don’t think of leather when you think of flooring. However, applied in the right way, it can be a great way to add a personal touch to your home. The below, in shades of black, provides luster and shine. When properly cared for leather can be very durable and provide a soft, warm touch.

Frank Lloyd Wright- Fallingwater 3D Animation

I had the chance to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in 2011, and I must say I cannot wait to go back. Not only was it magnificent, but Wright's forward thinking architecture is what so many architects and designers use as innovative inspiration for our present day buildings. Even today, after seventy years, Wright's masterpiece speaks volumes to site integration. Although there is a strict no photograph policy while in the home, I did snap a few shots of the exterior.  I also found a step by step, ground up animation of the home that details Fallingwater as one of most amazing examples of architecture in America today. Enjoy.

Wash Up!

Hello everyone! Wanted to share with you some sinks i think are pretty cool!  Bathrooms are rooms where you can be bold.  The use of a unique sink  is a perfect way to bring personality into the space and still give you all the functionality you need in a bathroom.  And if a sink is all it takes to make you fall in love with your bathroom again then that is pretty awesome! to get ready to take on the day. And the wood counter adds a warm touch.

 What a sleek sink.  As if the mosaic tiles were just peeled off the wall. This sink is called 

Skin by Lago and it screams modern.  Minimalism is what makes this sink so powerful.
