Color of 2013: Emerald Green

Green has always been a favorite color of mine. I have green eyes which I think was when I first fell in love with green! Although my eyes are emerald green....they are still green! :)
Rich, saturated colors are so bold and make such a statement in a space. Please are naturally drawn to eye-catching things(such as bright colors) and it stimulates the brain and makes people think! That is how I feel about interiors, in my designs I always have elements that standout on purpose! It creates more interest and keep people in that space longer usually. Well I have yet to use emerald this year in my designs but I am sure it will be used soon with all these beautiful examples of the hue! Enjoy!

Oh my! These tiles are gorgeous! A stunning use of the color, but make sure you are going to still love it for years to come. They even used the tiles in a vertical and horizontal pattern which gives it more of a modern look!

Love the color but not sure where to bring it in to your space? Well a great way is in a small accent piece, such as a nightstand. Mix it with other patterns and colors for a mixed look!

Want a quick fix for a bland room? Pillows are a great inexpensive way to bring in color. Whether you change your pillows for the season or every year or so this is a great way to keep your home looking fresh!

Paint, the other quick fix for adding color. Keeping your furniture neutral is a great way to add accents elsewhere in the room. Like the wall for instance, and a can of paint makes a statement and is easy on the wallet!

Bathrooms look great in white but sometimes white can be lonely, which is why a friend is nice to bring in.  Here the emerald is paired nicely with the crisp white on the walls and a few decorative accessories.

Dislplaying Art and Photos Creatively

Walls are the perfect location to display your memories, your art, family photos, even your kid's artwork! But sometimes these areas get over looked or they are just too large of a space to work with...well here are some DIY examples to get you over your fear of hanging art correctly and creatively! Enjoy!

Black and white are the classic color combo and this is because it is easy to add any color to them! These floating ledges are prefect for many various frame sizes and you can rearrange easily when you want to update your decor or photos! The overlapping frames give the idea of chaos but the colors give the feeling of order.

This grouping of single photograph is a great way to display your most recent photos! Easily changeable, and if you have photos with a white boarder if gives a gallery effect.

Don't think you have a well balanced group of artwork? Think again! Scale and balance are what makes this display work. Centered on the wall and making smaller groupings to balance each other works wonders.

Bands of flat canvas strips hung in a grid formation lets you displace your kid's more recent works of art! Use metal clips to hang the art! This will also allow your kids to hang the art themselves!

Evently spaced out, mixed frames are always a great choice for a home. It gives a collected feeling. Also very east to continue to add more frames as time goes on.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

No more excuses to leave: there is nothing cozier than admiring the beauty of snowcapped mountains and powdery snow on the ground from the comfort of your own home. Whether it's your winter holiday home or a getaway cabin in the woods, be sure to appreciate your place. Wherever you are in this winter season, remember to bring the beauty of the outside in, while keeping out the cold and taking in the warmth! Enjoy!

If eyes are the windows to the soul, then windows are eyes to the outside: where the extension of your home is. Bring more of the outside in by lining your walls with rich wood as seen in this stairwell. I love the cascading string of light-orbs: it's like stars in the night sky!

This children's bedroom is complete with the rich wood and large windows like we have shown before, but notice the plush white rug: it's just like snow on the ground! Perfect for kids play!

Gotta love these earthy tones! The beige, natural wood, and accents of fall colors offer the perfect interior to admire the exquisite environment just outside your home. The brown carpet is even reminiscent of soil in the winter softly speckled with snowflakes.

Not much else is really needed with a breathtaking view like that! This kitchen's best asset is the large, open windows displaying the majestic range. However, accents like the natural wooden cabinets and the glacier-like marble countertops lend an arctic feel to this streamlined kitchen.
Dining in December: bright white snow and darker tones of winter nights. A perfect combination for your winter holiday dinners!

Frame Your Walls!

Displaying wall art can be a challenge, especially if you can't figure out away to make different pieces feel connected. These are some great ideas to display your works of art! Enjoy!

All these pieces are different but putting then in various black and white frames gives them a cohesive feel and keeping a simple shape like a rectangle can make them feel as a whole.

Overlap your art and put on an art shelf for added height.

Center the center of all the pieces together on the wall so it feel like one big piece.

Put all your art in the same style frames to give a simple elegant look.

Stairs: Up & Down, Up & Down!

Stairs are tired of just being walked on all the time. I say, let them be noticed! Let them make a statement! These nontraditional styles will surely have you reconsidering how essential stairs are to the flow and connectedness of your home. Enjoy!

Love your books? Stairs do, too! These stairs provide a clean, orderly, and space-conscious solution to organizing your growing book collection.

These stairs are sleek and simple, yet incredibly striking: the perfect way to unite a modern multilevel home.

Curved staircases are always stylish, but the individual steps are often overlooked. Try adding something creative to the steps. These are filled with wood shavings!

What's black and white and walked all over? This metal zig-zag staircase! This design is sophisticated and unique: definitely something I want to try in the next house design project.

Finally, my favorite staircase! These 3D floating parallelograms are so clever; and using one of the steps as a desk- even more clever! This multipurpose staircase shows creativity, sophistication, and a high design IQ.

Little cost, BIG effect!

A little bit of COLOR can add a lot to a space!  A simple change brightens a room, pull components together and makes a statement all at once.  These are few rooms that I think are good examples of transforming a room just by painting the walls.  If you have been hesitant to paint your walls...relax...its just paint!  Enjoy!

A soothing shade of blue will help create a serene and relaxing look. This bathroom
appears inviting and cozy while the white tones make you feel fresh and clean.

Orange is a bold accent choice, but applied in the correct way and hue, can be very elegant.  The design of this room is calm and classic but the color orange brings life to a space that may have other wise been dull.  This examplebrings your attention to the fireplace while maintaining a simple and clean look.

Classic Black and White...but wait....add a vivid green to the walls and POW, its become THE accessory in the room.  And if you get bored with the green (or any color for that matter) just paint again! It is an inexpensive way to make a big statement.

Yellow and grey walls bring your attention up and allow the use of lighter colors in the rest of the room providing a more open feel.  Also, since the yellow is on the headboard wall, it wont be too bright for your eyes when you decide to rise and shine.

Wash Up!

Hello everyone! Wanted to share with you some sinks i think are pretty cool!  Bathrooms are rooms where you can be bold.  The use of a unique sink  is a perfect way to bring personality into the space and still give you all the functionality you need in a bathroom.  And if a sink is all it takes to make you fall in love with your bathroom again then that is pretty awesome! Enjoy.

Love this paper like sink! So gracious and soft this is such a pleasant way
to get ready to take on the day. And the wood counter adds a warm touch.

What a sleek sink.  As if the mosaic tiles were just peeled off the wall. This sink is called
Skin by Lago and it screams modern.  Minimalism is what makes this sink so powerful.

Splat!  Perfect splash of color in a bathroom! Comes in other bright colors too!
Not only does it look cool it still gives you enough surrounding counter space.

Cup of coffee in the morning? How about this cup sink with
built-in towel rack to perk you up.  The design of this pedestal sink
is flawless.  Gives you a clean look yet organic feel with its curves.

 Concrete...check. Trough style...check. Wall-mounted faucets...check.
This sink for two has everything!  LOVE the integrated sink, it lends itself to a classic yet modern look.

Have a small bathroom but need space for two? Why not one wide sink
with two faucets! Still gives you ample counter space.

An actual use for a fish tank! Pretty cool idea though. Depending on
your decor you could change the "fishbowl" it coordinate.
