Picture Perfection in Your Own Home

Why do we share more pictures on the internet than we do in our own home? Let your home share your story! These wall displays make your photos cohesive so you can tell your story in a way that is just as unique as your own life. Enjoy!

No one wants a 'hole-in-the wall' place! This unique photo rack lets you display many pictures without putting more holes in the wall. Show off your sensibility and sophistication with this sleek setup.

This arrangement reminds me of mountains and their reflected image from a still lake. I love the visual line that splits the upper and lower photos in the display- it lengthens the wall in a creative and subtle way.

Mix and match! This display definitely took a lot of advice from my previous 'Mix and Match' post. Notice how the photos seem random, yet cohesive? It's important to keep even spacing between frames, otherwise this could affect the display's balance and flow.

Don't let your photos go haywire! Instead, hang them on the wire! This display allows you to easily swap photos and slide frames to keep your memories fresh and fun.

Life is one big balancing act, and it shows on your wall! Even though this wall is not covered entirely by picture frames, the panoramic photos maintain balanced by symmetry. Again, I love the classic nostalgia that black and white photos give!

Keep your photos in line! This display is simple yet sophisticated. The clean lines offer order while the black and white photographs portray timeless charm and class.

Let the Inspiration Begin!

Hi There!  Glad you found my blog! I am Suzanne and I hope to inspire you with fresh, fun ideas for your dwelling.  Whether you are new to the wonderful world of design or you are an enthusiast like me, you will find something that inspires!

But first, I will share with you a little about me! I enjoy all kinds of design and anything creative. Sharing ideas and the creativity it sparks is what drove me to blogging.

I hope to highlight some new ideas and products that you would have maybe missed, if it wasn't for this design blog.  Giving you some inspiration and a place to connect with me and other design loving people.

Here are a few of my favorite things! Enjoy.

This is the way to use a bold color in a room.  Just a little for the accent chair and in a few medium accessories and VOILA!  Also, notice the different wood tones. Perfect way to blend them without being matchy-matchy. It creates a more "collected" look that looks like you built your room piece by piece.

Gore Design Co. makes these AH-mazing sinks out of concrete. I think they're beautiful and really durable. Definitely having one made for my next bathroom design!

The Eames Lounge Chair.
Best chair all around (obviously my favorite)- it is comfortable and looks good in just about any space. Pair it with an ultra  modern living room or a relaxed cottage living room, pretty sure it will look great in both!

I did a similar photo arrangement in my first place.  Random frames, all painted to match and black and white pictures. Did this down the entire hall it had a cool effect- cohesive yet eclectic.

The santomer dining table has always been one of my favs! Its reclaimed wood from building tear downs.  You can get the base in various stains but I love the striking look of ebony stained mahogany. Pair this with any style of chair; I like the ghost chair from Kartell

I LOVE exposed brick! I have yet to have some in any of my dwellings but someday I will have it!
There is just something about old brick paired with new furniture.....so delish.

Unique storage is always fun! What would have been a hollow blank wall
can be transformed into a wall of bookshelves! Giving you plenty of storage for all you
book lovers and an attractive wall of art!

Dislplaying Art and Photos Creatively

Walls are the perfect location to display your memories, your art, family photos, even your kid's artwork! But sometimes these areas get over looked or they are just too large of a space to work with...well here are some DIY examples to get you over your fear of hanging art correctly and creatively! Enjoy!

Black and white are the classic color combo and this is because it is easy to add any color to them! These floating ledges are prefect for many various frame sizes and you can rearrange easily when you want to update your decor or photos! The overlapping frames give the idea of chaos but the colors give the feeling of order.

This grouping of single photograph is a great way to display your most recent photos! Easily changeable, and if you have photos with a white boarder if gives a gallery effect.

Don't think you have a well balanced group of artwork? Think again! Scale and balance are what makes this display work. Centered on the wall and making smaller groupings to balance each other works wonders.

Bands of flat canvas strips hung in a grid formation lets you displace your kid's more recent works of art! Use metal clips to hang the art! This will also allow your kids to hang the art themselves!

Evently spaced out, mixed frames are always a great choice for a home. It gives a collected feeling. Also very east to continue to add more frames as time goes on.

Staying Hot Next To The Fireplace While It's Cold Outside!

Ah the fireplace....one of the oldest sources for heating a space. Well today with modern technology most of us don't heat our home with a fireplace but there is something about seeing a fireplace lit that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Some home boast a traditional fireplace with a mantle that you hang your Christmas stockings on others prefer a more streamline approach. Thus the birth of the modern fireplace! I am lucky to have a fireplace in our home that used to be the traditional wooden mantle but we changed that. To keep you warm during these winter months, imagine yourself sitting in front of one of these warming fires. Enjoy!

This is how you stay warm in the bathroom! Soak in the tub with a fire going....can't get much better than this!

Lovely integration of different materials in this interior. Fireplace is the focal point!

Sleek design makes for a subtle accent but it still stands out in a space!

Cozy reading chair next to a fire, everyone loves that! Still has the traditional feel but modernized look.

Real wood burning fireplaces are great. The scent of hickory is sure to make anyone fell at home! Also you can't forget the wood storage, nicely integrated.

This is  my fireplace, before and after and for those who think it cost too much to reface a fireplace it doesn't. We did it for under $800! And the room looks 100 times better!

Welcome the sun with filtered light!

When sunlight peaks through tree branches to create rays of filtered light, I can't help but feel surrounded by absolutely mystifying beauty. However, as we approach midwinter, we don't get to see the sun as often as we'd like or witness streams of sunlight. But don't worry- the sun will come out... next season! So, when spring finally comes, welcome the sun into your home with warm, filtered light. Now is the perfect time for implementing an inundation of flowing streams of light into your home. Enjoy!

Angled ceiling skylights allow for bright, beautiful light beams to burst in and brighten a bedroom.

These 'floating' stairs slice the sunlight, creating streams that pour light into an otherwise dismal stair well.

Filtered light doesn't always have to be fragmented light- the sunlight enters this home through textured, opaque windows.

All about the angles- the thick windowpanes set at drastic angles offers a a unique edge to this modern, earthy dwelling

One Piece...Two Uses!

Not everyone lives a large and in-charge house and has abundant storage areas. Like me, and most of the city dwellers I know, we have limited space to keep the things we love, need and use throughout our everyday lives. I am always looking for multifunctional pieces of furniture to use in not only my own home but the homes of my clients as well. For those of you who need a little insight into the wonderful world of multi-use furniture....here you go! Enjoy!

It's a shelf....not it's a desk.... it's BOTH! This is perfect for a laptop user that doesn't really need a full blown desk.  Taking up less floor space than a traditional desk and looks pretty cool too!

Coffee Table with built in floor cushions. Brilliant! Could also store items in the middle part.

Sit. Store. Drink Wine. What a great idea for those who love wine but don't really have a giant collection or a wine cellar. And sitting in this chair means you don't even have to leave you seat to fill your glass up!

Bookshelf turned eating area!! Store anything you want in the cubbies and when you need a place to eat just pull out a chair! This is great for any small space!

Tips For Organizing Your Home: 2013

Happy New Year! As everyone plans their new year's resolutions not to eat cake or workout more but don't neglect your home from getting a new look or just a little TLC to make your new year even easier with a clutter free home! I might be a little OCD (in a good way) but January if the perfect month to begin your home organization transformation.  It's cold outside, perfect for staying inside where it is warm and easy to get things done around the house! I have begun on my home already but still have a little ways to go. Thought this would be the perfect time to share some of my ideas and tips that you can use in your own home! Enjoy!

You know those free metal hangers you get from the dry cleaners? Well there is a reason they are free.....they aren't good for your clothes, chose one kind either wood or plastic and go with it through your entire closet. One, it will more organized, and two, it will keep your clothes looking better.

An easy fix for a lack of storage in a home office wall shelves. They are inexpensive and will give you more storage than you thought was possible. Make sore to get ones sturdy enough to hold what you need to place on the shelves. Heavier items might not do as well on a floating shelf.

Use matching storage boxes to create a calm working environment. Also keeps the mess hidden and your work area looking fabulous!

Don't have a separate room for your home office? Make sure whatever room your desk is in, it blends well with the decor in that room. Use the same colors or same materials to make it feel like part of the room and not like a sad desk stuck in the corner!

Boxes are always good storage options. Why not put a picture of that box's content on the outside. This is an easy way to remember where things are with out having to use a label maker!

The Junk Drawer...everyone has one, take time to go through it and put items in there correct homes then get a few organizers for the remaining items and TADA! No more "junk drawer"!

It is cold season which means the flu is in the air! This is a great time to go through your medicines and throw out the expired ones and organize the rest! clear containers work great!
