You just got home from a long, hard day of work. You're exhausted, and all you want to do is fall into bed and fly away to Dreamland. You look at your bed- a mattress on top of a measly metal bed frame. It's definitely not inviting you to Dreamland, is it? This can all change just by adding a creative headboard. Not Your Mama's Washed-out Washroom!

Mama always said, "Life is like laundry... it's loads of fun!" Well, I'm sure no one's mama ever actually said that, let alone meant that. The laundry room may not be a fun room, but it should be a functional room! When designing a home, many people often put the laundry room in the back of their mind until it soon becomes their biggest headache. One of my current clients has suffered numerous years with laundry room headaches, but with a little inspiration, I have the ideal prescription for her. Maybe you'll find some of these examples inspirational to you, too! Enjoy!

 To stack or not to stack? That is the question! Well, no matter whichever answer suits your space, know that color is the ultimate answer! Like I said, this isn't your mama's washed-out washroom- these bright blues make the laundry room seem cleaner and more exciting.

 

This laundry room is on double-duty!  Everything is clean and symmetrical. The splash of color on the walls and bold cabinets take this washroom from washed-out to wonderful!

   

 The wall says it all! This patterned wallpaper offers stimulation to an otherwise non-stimulating chore: laundry. The toned-down cabinets play-up organization and efficiency, and the large window lets the sun brighten your dullest chores. 

Mission: Impossible. Who would have thought that such a small space could hold so much?! The washer and dryer are streamlined perfectly into the rest of this multi-functional room's decor.

Everyday Kitchens Made Sustainable!

Whether you are doing an entire kitchen overhaul or a few smaller upgrades you should keep in mind green design.  Weather its using a recycled material or energy efficient appliances...its a change for the better! These are some great designs and all use sustainable materials. Enjoy!

Bamboo is a wonderful product. Grows fast and is durable! Mix it with stainless and this kitchen has an instant modern feel. Also, open storage has become more appealing to homeowners since you have beautiful dinnerware why not show it off all the time? Perfect.

Love this! Would you ever think this was a sustainable kitchen? Probably not and that is the beauty of it. All the function and durability of a "typical" kitchen but highly stylish! 

 

 Would you ever know walking into this kitchen that it was designed as a "green" kitchen? Well concrete floors, quartz counter top make this home be just a little greener than its neighbor. Every little bit helps! 

WOOD! This is from a house mainly designed out of wood......so naturally the kitchen presents lots of wood.  People sometimes forget wood can be sustainable and there are plenty of manufactures spreading the word and making sure the right practices are in place.  Since the wood comes from the right place and new trees are planted in the old ones place, this makes a nice green designed kitchen, and the addition of concrete counters adds to the design.

Secret Rooms....just find that secret door!

Remember all those movies with secret passages and mysterious hidden rooms....well they are becoming more and more popular in private homes today.  These are some different example to fit what ever your style is and be sure to WOW your guests.  When I build my dream home you will be sure to see one of these in there! Just don't go searching for it! Enjoy!

  Again really nicely done.  Any style goes with these doors. 

  Love the stone wall!  In the right location in a house this would never be suspected as a secret door.

 

 Traditional built-in finished nicely....then BAM! A secret room.

 This is probably my favorite! Clean lines with lots of storage.....yum.....makes me want to buy some more books!

Storage for the Dirtiest Room in the House!

A garage is a place for cars, lawn care supplies, old paint cans, sports equipment,  tools.....you get the point, everything. So finding something in there may be a challenge if not properly organized. These are some ideas that may help you find things. Spring is the perfect time to do such a daunting task! Enjoy!

A gear-head's dream! There is a place for every tool in these bold Craftsman tool boxes. And a TV! Who wouldn't want that in their garage!

 Perfect if there are lots of people in your household. Easily accessible for everyone and for not so often used item there is closed storage above.

 Pick it up off the ground. It when you start stacking things that makes a garage seem cluttered.  Instead let nothing be on the floor! makes sweeping really easy too!

 Smooth....So clean and easy to maintain. Stainless cabinets are always a good choice for garages. They are durable and look good while keeping all your precious things safe behind closed doors.

 The ceiling! Now why didn't I think of that! That is the perfect place for seasonal items or things you may not use too often. Out of the way!

Don't worry, these aren't the tips you'll find in Cosmo. Instead, ask S Squared Design how to make your shower sexy-- well, the design, anyway! Here are some hot, fresh ideas to turn your ordinary shower into a place of relaxation and rejuvenation. Enjoy!

 Big enough for two! The double doors allow for easy entry and the glass lets your bathroom feel spacious, open, and clean. (Hey, city dwellers from last post- like the view?!)

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day 2012! Its the 42nd Earth Day and every year people are finding ways to help our environment.  Sometimes it is by using bio-degradable water bottle, or taking your recycles to the collection facility so they don't end up in a landfill. But what about that old furniture you have that you were going to put out on the curb for the trash man to take? Don't throw it way! Give it new life. Here are so great ideas for that old chair or dresser you may have laying around. Enjoy!

 Apartment style garden, small and thanks to the attached lamp your mini garden will get plenty of light!

 Love this idea! Putting grass seeds on chairs them put them outside! Definitely give new life to any old piece. 

 Remember those hard case suitcases that were oh so cool in the 80's and 90's? Well don't throw them away deconstruct them in half and top with foam and fabric of your choice an ta da! lovely new ottoman or seat!

 Dresser turned plant shelf? An old dresser makes a great place to display small potted plants or a nice herb garden!

Old fabric on your sofa? Rip it off and gut the insides of your dated sofa. This is  now a multilevel planter box perfect for those various flowers you love to display!

Rock-a-bye Baby!

These rooms are sure to rock your baby's world-- in a comfortable, relaxing, and adorable way, of course! Neutral-gender designs for baby are more popular than ever- and cuter than ever. Here are a few bright and gender-neutral rooms that any mommy-to-be will love. Enjoy!
